— Even When It Doesn’t Feel Productive...
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how easy it is to feel guilty for not making enough.
Not producing. Not finishing. Not showing up like we think we “should.”
Especially when creativity is part of our identity — or even our livelihood — the pressure can sneak in quietly.
And yet… some of the most meaningful art I’ve ever made happened when I stopped trying to be productive and just let myself be present.
Not for output. Not for show. Just because I needed it.
The Shift: From Producing to Presence
Over the past few years — especially through healing, motherhood, and exploring more spiritual tools — my relationship with creativity has changed. It’s become less about chasing consistency and more about honoring energy. Less about finishing and more about feeling.
I used to think that if I wasn’t producing something visible or valuable, I was falling behind. But now I see creativity as a conversation. A communion. A way to listen to something deeper — whether you call it Spirit, God, intuition, or simply your soul coming up for air.
Creativity as a Spiritual Practice
Some days, painting feels like prayer.
Other days, it feels like therapy.
And sometimes it’s nothing more than a few brushstrokes in silence while the world spins a little too fast.
But every time I show up for it — even if it’s messy or unfinished — I feel more like myself. And that, to me, is sacred.
Creativity doesn’t have to look like much to be doing something important. It doesn’t have to be shared to matter. It doesn’t even have to be “good.” It just needs to be true.
When the Muse Is Quiet
If you’re in a slower season with your art, I want you to know: it’s okay.
There’s nothing wrong with you. You’re not failing. The muse doesn’t run on a strict schedule, and neither do you.
Your creativity is still alive — even in rest, even in pause, even in waiting.
Sometimes the most sacred thing you can do is not produce.
Sometimes just listening is enough.
