Electional Astrology & Launch Timing: What the Chart Can and Cannot Decide
Electional astrology is the practice of choosing a start time for something, so that the chart of that moment supports what you are beginning. For a website, the moment that counts is the one where the files go live.
I build websites and brands for a living, and I read charts. So I sit in a strange spot: I am the person who both picks the date and pushes the button.
What I Notice When I Pull a Chart for a Business Launch
Every time I pull a chart for a web design or brand launch, it lines up with something already moving in the client’s life. A shift that started months before anyone mentioned a website.
That has been consistent enough that it changed what I look for. I stopped looking for permission to launch and started looking at what the launch was already part of.
🌟 If you are reading this because you are already thinking about launching something, that impulse usually has a transit behind it. Your Beautiful Birth Chart lets you go and look at what is moving in your own chart right now, without booking anything or waiting on anyone.
The Mercury Retrograde Launch
I once launched a site during Mercury retrograde for a client who had no interest in astrology whatsoever. Corporate, in-house marketing team, the whole thing.
I mentioned it to their head of marketing. Just a heads up, we are launching in Mercury retrograde, so let us build in a buffer.
She laughed. Politely. I do not think she believed a word of it. Maybe she does now.
Because there were technical difficulties, real ones, and we spent a chunk of that week fixing things that should not have needed fixing.
A launch has a lot of technical pieces that have to be worked through, and email is usually where it lands. Domain records, mail routing, deliverability. It is the least glamorous part of the job and it is the one that most often needs attention on launch week.
For someone who is not especially comfortable with tech, that can be stressful. So I walk clients through all of it. Screen shares, short video tutorials for the small fiddly things they will need again later, and I take whatever I can off their plate entirely.
Though I will say, while I am in here: I walk them through it instead of doing it under my own login. You should be the main key holder. Your domain, your hosting, your email, your site, registered to you, with your designer working inside permissions you granted. If you are building with someone who keeps all of that under their own account, treat it as a red flag. It is rarely bad intent. It is just easier for them. But easier for them is a risk for you, and you find out how much of one at the worst possible moment. Walking someone through their own DNS settings takes longer than doing it for them. It is also the difference between owning your business and renting it.
Anyway. The biggest issue on a launch is not Mercury retrograde. It is GoDaddy’s Microsoft 365 email. If I could elect a chart to avoid one thing, it would be that.
So what happened that week? Both things. The retrograde was a fair description of the texture. It was also a week any developer would have recognized in any month of the year. I am not going to tell you that proves astrology, and I am not going to tell you it disproves it. What it taught me is that the chart described the week accurately and did not control it. We did.
The Client Whose Chart Said Go Big
This is the one that changed how I work.
She was coming out of corporate and building something of her own, and her chart was genuinely exciting. Long range potential, real scope, the kind of placements that make you sit up. She could see it too. She wanted to launch the big version of the idea.
And the big version required starting with a loan from family.
That is the part a chart will not always tell you. Her chart described where she was heading. It said nothing about whether she should actually start there, what her runway looked like, or what it would cost her to carry that much weight in her first year out of a salary.
So we launched something much smaller. A little way in, at a fraction of the scale she had been picturing.
The chart was not wrong. Months after we launched, the aspects we had flagged in her reading did open things up, and we had known roughly when to expect them. Moments that favored building community around what she had made. Moments that made sense for the next phase.
If we had read only the chart and skipped the context of her life, we would have launched the big version, and she would have spent that first year stressing. Same chart. Same potential. A great deal of undue stress.
Most people who book one of these are about to build something. A site, a brand, the next phase of a business they have been circling for a while. It works well as a step one, because it is easier to build for the season you are in than for the one you assumed you were in.
That is what Energetic Business Strategy is. We look at what is moving for you, what kind of transition you are in the middle of, and what work that points toward. Then you make the build decisions with that in hand.
I will be honest about why I love doing these: people leave those calls more confident about the direction they were already heading. They could finally see the shape of it.
What I Will Not Do as a Business Astrologer
I will not push a launch six weeks because of a placement.
The strategy has to be in the room. Is the copy done? Is the offer clear? Is there anyone waiting to hear about this? Those questions need room to decide more than the Moon does, and I love the Moon, I assure you.
I am not the manifestation girly. I am not just going to tell you the universe delivers if the timing is right, though that certainly helps tremendously. What I will say is that knowing the weather changes how you pack.
So What Is the Chart Good For
Context. The chart tells you what season you are in. It can show you that the restlessness you have been feeling for eight months has a shape, and that the shape has been building toward something. It can show you which moments ahead are likely to favor growth, so you can plan the push instead of agonizing over the launch.
That is a different tool than a perfect date. It is more useful, because it keeps working after the site goes live.
If you are already dreaming about launching, you are usually already in the window. The impulse usually arrives alongside the transit. By the time you are researching launch dates, something has already moved.
The Three Things I Do Take Seriously
Mercury retrograde for a launch is worth respecting, and I say that as the person who launched during one anyway. A website launch is a communication event. It is copy, forms, emails, links, a lot of small things that have to fire correctly. If you have flexibility, use it.
Eclipse windows are the second. Eclipses accelerate whatever they touch, and a launch is already an acceleration. If the date is movable, move it.
The Moon is the third, and it is the one I find genuinely interesting for a launch. Traditional electional practice looks at the Moon’s applying aspect, meaning the next planet it will meet by degree, when the question is whether anybody turns up. Dorotheus was writing about this in the first century and it survived into modern electional work because the logic is clean. You would rather open your doors with the Moon moving toward a planet that has resources than toward one that has none.
Nothing in a chart tells you how many people buy. What the Moon gives you is a reason to prefer one afternoon over another when both are otherwise fine, and that is the whole job of an election.
None of those is a rule. They are three places where the traditional advice matches what goes wrong.
How to Find Your Own Window
Look at what is moving through your own chart right now, then look forward a few months at what is coming.
You are looking for two things. The season you are in, which usually explains why you are thinking about this at all. And the moments ahead that favor visibility and growth, which are better spent on the push than on the launch itself.
You do not need to book anything to start doing this yourself. If you have been googling your placements one at a time, working out what a Venus in the 7th means on its own and then what a Saturn return means on its own, and you still cannot see how any of it connects, Your Beautiful Birth Chart is the version where the pieces sit together. Your placements by sign and house, your aspects, and transits you can move forward and backward through by date.
So when the question comes up again in four months, and it will, you can go and look yourself.
That is the same argument I made about your domain. You should be the one holding the keys.
