How to Choose an Astrologer:
Why Their Approach Matters as Much as Their Knowledge
Choosing an astrologer is one of those decisions that people often make much more casually than I think they should.
We read a few posts, hear someone mentioned on a podcast, see a viral reel, or receive a recommendation from a friend, and suddenly we’re handing someone one of the most personal maps of our lives.
A birth chart may look like a circle filled with symbols, but it can hold conversations about family, relationships, purpose, fear, grief, ambition, and the parts of ourselves we’re still learning to understand. Who you invite into that conversation matters.
You Are Choosing a Person, Too
One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the years is that you’re never choosing only an astrologer. You’re also choosing a person.
Every astrologer brings their own experiences, philosophy, training, beliefs, values, and communication style into the reading. The chart stays the same, but the way it’s explored can feel very different from one astrologer to the next.
This is simply part of being human.
Some astrologers focus on prediction. Others are drawn to psychological astrology, spiritual growth, relationship dynamics, or practical life guidance. Some speak with great certainty. Others leave more room for possibility and conversation. Some use traditional techniques, while others blend several schools of thought together.
What matters is finding someone whose approach feels right for you.
Spend Time With Their Work Before You Book
Before you ever book a reading, spend a little time with their work.
Read a few articles. Listen to a podcast episode. Watch a video if they have one. Scroll through their social media. Pay attention to how they talk about people, not just how much astrology they know.
Do they leave you feeling curious or fearful?
Do they speak with humility, or do they present every interpretation as unquestionable truth?
Do they acknowledge that a birth chart can be lived in many different ways, or do they make sweeping conclusions from a single placement?
You are getting a preview of what it might feel like to sit across from them.
Understand Where They Draw the Line
I also think it’s worth understanding where an astrologer draws the line.
Every astrologer has boundaries, whether they talk about them openly or not. Do they make health predictions? Do they predict death? Will they interpret someone else’s chart without their knowledge or consent? How do they approach difficult conversations? What role do they believe free will plays alongside astrology?
Personally, I think those questions matter.

Be Thoughtful About Who Has Access to Your Chart
The same thinking is one of the reasons I encourage people to be thoughtful about sharing their birth chart publicly online.
Once your chart is posted, anyone can begin interpreting it through their own beliefs, assumptions, and experiences. Even comments that are well intentioned can stay with someone for years.

You Can Begin Privately
Of course, not everyone wants another person’s interpretation right away.
Some people would rather begin quietly, learning their chart at their own pace before inviting another voice into the conversation. That desire for privacy and personal exploration is one of the reasons I created Your Beautiful Birth Chart.
It gives you the space to build your own relationship with your chart first, without feeling rushed or influenced by someone else’s interpretation.
And if, somewhere along the way, you decide you’d like another perspective, you’ll have a much stronger foundation for that conversation.
Find the Approach That Feels Right for You
