What Sets January 2027 Up, from the End of December
Saturn and Neptune turned direct in December, on the 10th and the 12th, and Jupiter turned retrograde in Leo on the 12th. Saturn and Neptune now move forward at the start of Aries, and Jupiter backs over degrees of Leo it has already covered.
Mercury entered Capricorn on December 25 and stays there until January 13. It meets the Sun on January 1 at 11°03′ Capricorn.
Your Beautiful Birth Chart shows your placements by sign and house and lets you move to any date in January, so you can see what the new moon, the Mars retrograde and the full moon touch in your own chart.
New Moon in Capricorn, January 7
The new moon falls at 17°18′ Capricorn, with Mercury almost 4 degrees ahead of it at 21°01′. A Capricorn new moon points at structure, long-range plans and what you are willing to commit to, and Mercury’s closeness helps you put the plan into words.
Venus enters Sagittarius the same day, after a month in Scorpio.
Mars Turns Retrograde, January 10
Mars stations retrograde at 10°26′ Virgo and turns direct on April 1 at 20°56′ Leo, backing into Leo on February 21 on the way. In Virgo, Mars works through detail, routines and repair, so a retrograde here favors finishing and fixing, and makes a poor setting for anything that depends on speed. The 12 sections below show which area of your life it touches.
Mercury Enters Aquarius, January 13, and Meets Pluto, January 15
Mercury enters Aquarius on January 13 and conjoins Pluto at 4°49′ Aquarius on January 15. Mercury governs how you talk and decide, and Pluto is where power and secrecy surface, so a conversation about control, trust or what is being withheld may carry more weight than usual that week.
Venus trines Saturn the same day, at 9°05′, a steady angle for a commitment that has been thought through.
Aquarius Season Begins, January 20
The Sun enters Aquarius on January 20 and trines Uranus on January 21 at 1°49′. Aquarius season turns attention to groups, ideas and what you want to share, and the Uranus trine supports an unusual idea or a change of plan.
Full Moon in Leo, January 22
The full moon is exact at 2°14′ Leo, with the Sun at 2°14′ Aquarius. It sits on the Leo-Aquarius axis, which pulls individual expression and group belonging into view together. The Sun trines Uranus and sextiles Neptune around the same time.
Mars retrograde often stirs up old business. Your Personal Pattern reads your chart as one connected system and shows the pattern underneath what keeps coming back, so you can recognize it instead of only reacting to it.
The Sun Meets Pluto, and Mercury’s Shadow Begins, January 25
The Sun conjoins Pluto at 5°06′ Aquarius on January 25, which makes it a strong date for a conversation about power, control or a long-hidden subject. The same day, Mercury reaches 20°55′ Aquarius, the degree where it will turn direct on March 3, and its retrograde shadow begins.
Mercury opposes Jupiter on January 27 at 23°54′, between Aquarius and Leo, and the Sun sextiles Saturn on January 30. Mercury enters Pisces on January 31, 9 days before it turns retrograde on February 9.
The Bigger Picture
Three planets are retrograde through January: Mars in Virgo, Jupiter in Leo and Uranus in Gemini. Uranus turns direct on February 8, Mars on April 1 and Jupiter on April 12.
The first eclipse season of 2027 follows right behind it, starting with the annular solar eclipse on February 6. The February 2027 eclipse pair covers both of them, and the major astrological transits of 2027 places the whole year.
