The Gemini Constellation in the Sky
The brightest star in Gemini is Pollux, at magnitude about 1.2. the Latin form of the Greek Polydeuces, the immortal twin. Bayer gave the brighter star Beta by inattention, so Castor holds Alpha while being the fainter of the two.
Both outer solar system discoveries happened in this constellation. Herschel found Uranus near Eta Geminorum in March 1781, and Tombaugh found Pluto in 1930 on plates centered on Delta Geminorum.
The constellation and the sign are separate things, and the gap between them is roughly 24 degrees now.
