The Part of Fortune is a calculated point, worked out from three places in your chart. It comes from your Ascendant, your Sun and your Moon, and it marks the part of your chart where things come together with less friction than everywhere else. Pull your free birth chart and look for the ⊗ glyph.
You need a real birth time for this one. No noon guess, no rounding to the nearest hour. The Ascendant moves about a degree every four minutes, and the Part of Fortune moves with it.
Find Yours
Open your free birth chart with your exact time and place, and find the ⊗ glyph on the wheel. Write down the sign and, more importantly, the house.
If you would rather do the arithmetic yourself, it is one line. Take the zodiac position of each point in absolute degrees, 0 to 360, and:
- Born in daylight, with the Sun above the horizon: Ascendant + Moon − Sun
- Born at night, with the Sun below it: Ascendant + Sun − Moon
Subtract 360 if you go over.
Why Two Calculators Disagree
That day and night split is the reason you can run your chart in two places and get two different answers, sometimes a whole sign or two apart.
The formula flips at the horizon. Plenty of software applies the daylight version to everybody, which is fine if you were born at two in the afternoon and wrong if you were born at two in the morning. Hellenistic astrologers used the flip from the beginning. It fell out of common use in the twentieth century and came back with the traditional revival.

What to Do With It
Look at the house and ask where you have been pushing uphill in a different part of your life while this one sat there working.
That is the practical use of it. It tells you which door was already open, which matters mostly because people spend years at the other doors.

How do I calculate my Part of Fortune?

Do I need my exact birth time?
Yes. The Ascendant shifts roughly a degree every four minutes, and the Part of Fortune moves with it, so an hour of error can move it into the next sign.
Why did two sites give me different answers?
Almost always the day and night formula. If you were born at night and one calculator used the daytime version, you get two positions that can sit a sign or more apart.
Is the Part of Fortune the same as the Lot of Fortune?
Same point. Lot is the older word and the one traditional astrologers use. Part came through the Latin translations.
Does it mean I will be rich?
No. It marks where effort converts more readily than elsewhere in your chart. Whether that shows up as money depends on the house, what aspects it, and what you do about any of it.
Are there other Lots?
Many. Fortune and Spirit are the pair that matter most, and Spirit is the one Hellenistic timing techniques like annual profections sit alongside. Fortune is the one almost every chart calculator shows.
